The Great Outdoors

Family has the power to balance, day in and day out. It has the power to do so over the dinner table, on vacation, over a sports event or simply during a drive home.

Family balances when it spends time together, and the more time a family spends together, the more time it will remain balanced.

It’s difficult today to spend as much time together as times past. Technology, work and activities can keep the family unit distracted. Families not living next to their extended family units can make things even more stressful.

What is a family to do? Well, demanding that the family spends time together is an option, but one that can stress the family even more. Telling the family they have to spend more time together may send children resisting and hiding out in their rooms, or partners reacting and putting their nose in a book.

The one thing that will definitely unite a family unit is spending time outside in nature together. Yes, time in nature together. But, wait, you say. How will I get everyone to agree? They will all surely protest?

You make it exciting. You make it enticing. And above all you make it fun. You think of the times you spent outside in your childhood and you come up with activities that you can enjoy with your family based on those spent out in nature with yours.

The bottom line is that nothing destresses like the great outdoors. And if your family needs a little balancing, heading outdoors to have some fun may be just what it needs.
